The Project

Muon Systems is a startup founded in 2015 by two physicists with a common objective: to apply the bring the muon tomography technique to a standard in the current market.

Winners of the Sidenor's Challenge

In November 2018, Sidenor chose the Muon Systems project as the winner of the challenge launched through the Bizkaia Open Future_ programme, an initiative of the Provincial Council of Biskay and Telefonica.

In May 2018, Sidenor , a company leader in the European industry of special steel, launched on the Bizkaia Open Future_ programme a challenge for the optimization of its production process. 20 start-ups, SMEs, universities and technological centers from the Basque Country, the rest of the country and from all over the world sent their proposals. Finally, Muon Systems is the winner of the Sidenor's Challenge with a solution based in the the use of muon tomography as a new technology for materials identification.

Fundación Repsol acceleration program

Renewed Support

In summer 2018, Fundación Repsol has renewed the support to the Muon Systems project, selected in september 2017 within its program “Entrepreneurs Fund” as one of the projects of the year. The program includes a mentoring team, technical and legal advice, training, funding, and access to Repsol facilities for technological validations. The highly competitive selection process carried out by the Entrepreneurs Fund seeks projects with a high level of innovation in the field of energy and mobility. Muon Systems was selected out of more than 350 young companies, bringing solidity to the project and giving us an important momentum to reach our goal of implanting the muon tomography as an inspection method within the industry.

Supported by the Center for Technological Industrial Development of the government of Spain (CDTI - NEOTEC 2016).

Best evaluated project in the category of Manufacturing and Materials.

The project presented by Muon Systems “Inspection of the internal state of industrial equipments in the petrochemical, and iron and steel industry”, has received the best evaluation of the year within the Manufacturing and Materials category of the program “New business projects for innovative companies” ( NEOTEC-CDTI), which this year considered 489 projects from all the Spanish state. This program allows our project to obtain significant financial support for the development of our muon tomography systems in the next 2 years.
